
Seniors From the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Baseball Team. {954 Preps}
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team won a fifth straight Regional Championship following a pair of wins over West Broward High School, highlighted by a walk-off home run from Lorenzo Laurel in the second game.
Gio Rojas pitched Game 1 and allowed only one hit in 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out 10 before Breylynn Courtney recorded the final out. Bennett Gary, Michael Ossenfort, Drew Freeman, Cade Raley, and Matthew Toback had RBIS in a 6-0 win.
In Game 2, the Eagles took an early 2-0 lead following a steal of home from Gary. Nick Diaz also added an RBI groundout The Eagles trailed 7-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth and came back to score four runs in the inning. The first two runs came in to score on an error and passed ball before Laurel hit the walk-off two run home run to win 8-7.
Chase Wildroudt earned the win after pitching the seventh. Danial Tartaglia started and allowed two earned runs in 4.2 innings before Courtney pitched in relief. The Eagles are 29-2 and will head to Fort Myers for the fifth straight year. The nation’s sixth-best team will await the opportunity to see the three other Regional Champions in the state.
