Marjory Stoneman Douglas Baseball Wins BCAA Championship. {BCAA}
By: Matt Rothman
The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team is only five games into the season and already has their first Championship, winning all three games in the BCAA Tournament.
Gavin Gargiulo got the ball in game one in a rematch of last year’s Regional Quarterfinal with Monarch on Monday. He improved to 2-0 with six strong innings, allowing only one run and striking out seven. Breylynn Courtney recorded the final three outs before Gio Rojas nearly tossed a perfect game.
The sophomore struck out 18 and kept J.P. Taravella hitless through the first 6.2 innings on Wednesday in what Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald called one of the best pitching performances he has seen in over 30 years of coaching. Niko Benestad got the offense going with a double and came around to score on a double from Nick Diaz. MSD went on to win 2-0 to set up a matchup with West Broward High School.

The Eagles got off to a fast start with three runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run home run from Benestad, and went on to win 12-0. Benestad homered again in the fourth, while Jayden Dubanewicz earned the win before Luke Cherry and Christian Milliken recorded the final six outs in relief.
“It was a great great week of baseball couldn’t be happier for the guys,” Fitz-Gerald said. “The way they played all week and to not allow a run in three games was pretty impressive.”
The Eagles will be back in action against Jesuit on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m.
