Marjory Stoneman Douglas football coach Christian Baldwin is facing a challenging recovery after suffering a serious hip injury last month.
The first-year varsity coach broke his hip in four places following an accident at home, sidelining him during the school’s homecoming game on Friday night.
While the MSD Eagles fell 0-3 to Boyd H. Anderson High School during Homecoming, the focus for some in the community has shifted to Baldwin’s recovery.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Baldwin, who underwent surgery and is currently in rehabilitation. Organized by Jamie Lapaglia, the fundraiser aims to help Baldwin and his family manage the rising costs of medical care.
“We’re doing whatever we can to help Coach Baldwin through this difficult time,” Lapaglia shared on GoFundMe, encouraging the community to contribute however they can.
So far, $2,095 has been raised as of press time.
Baldwin, who also coaches the girls’ flag football team and led them to their first District Championship in 14 years, is eager to return to the sidelines once he recovers. For now, MSD English teacher Coach Simon has stepped in as interim coach, guiding the Eagles through a season disrupted by weather-related game postponements.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will face Boca Raton Community High School on Friday, October 27.
