Devin Fitz-Gerald is only a sophomore, but he is officially committed to playing baseball in college for one of the top teams in the country.

The star shortstop and son of current coach Todd Fitz-Gerald is set to play at NC State after graduating from Marjory Stoneman Douglas in 2024. Devin has played one year on the varsity baseball team and won a State  Championship.

“It’s an honor, and it’s been a dream of mine since I was little to play in college,” said Devin. “It kind of relieves the pressure off of me, and just to go out there and have fun.”

This past season, Devin and the Eagles went 28-2 to win their second State Championship in six years. MSD also won a National Championship while Devin shined at shortstop and broke into the starting lineup in the postseason. Offensively, he had a pair of hits and played in the infield alongside eighth-round MLB draft pick Gavin Conticello.

Devin, who resides in Margate, began playing T-ball at two, then started with the Florida Pokers four years later. He continues with them while his father returns to coach the Pokers. Devin also has an older brother, Hunter, a star with the MSD baseball team, now playing college baseball at Florida Southwestern State College.

“I have a great relationship with the coaches and have seen how well they have developed infielders,” said Devin.. ‘They have a great tradition, but between the four sophomores on our team, we want to go out winning four championships.

When Devin graduates in 2024, he will be joining a program that went 37-19 in 2021 and reached the College World Series with seven wins in the NCAA Tournament. Before that, the Eagles are set to begin their season in February and now have 11 players committed to playing college baseball.
