
Marjory Stoneman Douglas Girls Water Polo. {Max Preps}
Marjory Stoneman Douglas delivered another standout week, highlighted by strong showings at the BCAA Championship, continued dominance on the tennis courts, and a milestone performance in the pool.
The Eagles competed at the BCAA Championship on Friday night at Fort Lauderdale High School, with several athletes turning in impressive results. On the girls side, Olympia Koumoutsakis placed seventh in the 1600 meters, while Sparta Koumoutsakis finished ninth in the same event. The duo also teamed up with Alexys Caropreso and Cecilia Gago in the 4×800 relay, where they placed seventh overall.
Caropreso added a ninth-place finish in the 800 meters. Gago and Antonella Dominguez each placed just outside the top ten, coming in 13th. In the 4×100 relay, the team of Mya-Kay Phidd, Jaliyah Robinson, Oriana Pimental Rivas, and Samantha DeGance finished 14th. Their seniors are Inaaya Anwar, Ariana Blanc, Alexis Freckleton, Cecilia Gago,, Olympia Koumoutsakis, Sparta Koumoutsakis, Sadie Szatkiewicz, Eva Wen and Kalli Wheeler.
For the boys team, Matthew Rosenberg was the lone competitor and placed 10th in the 3200 meters. Their seniors are Kyle Campbell, Thiago Cardozo, Julian Garcia, Austin Khaywami, Aiden Mcintrye, Boden Merlino, Kyle Pan, Christian Pollicino, Mateo Quinn, Isaac Reyes, Jonathan Rodriguez, Matthew Rosenberg, Gianni Wade and Caleb Walker.
The tennis teams have continued their impressive play, combining for a 20-4 record through their first 23 matches. The girls team is 11-1, with its only loss to Cypress Bay High School, while the boys are 9-3. Seniors this year feature Hermann Stelling, Ryan Tomek, Diego Perero, Claire Schwartz, Allison Kehler, Zara Risavy, Sarah Kumar and Caroline Oliveira
In water polo, both the boys’ and girls teams won District Championships. The boys’ team rebounded from a 0-6 start to win six of its final eight regular-season games, finishing 7-8 before winning a title. MSD knocked off West Boca Raton Community High School 17-4 behind five goals from Benjamin Ruytenbeek. He now has 109, while Nichols, who was recently honored on Senior Night with Thomas Nguyen, also had five goals and now has 53 goals this season. Nicholas McClellan, Andrew Stanchfield, Thomas Nguyen, Joshua DeSouza, Daniel Silva, Bryce Walker and Dylan Shapins have all had strong years.
The girls’ water polo team is 13-4 following a win against West Boca Raton Community High School in the District Championship. Seniors Sienna Grayeli and Samantha Renna have helped lead the way, while Sadie Titensor paces the offense with 101 goals. She recently surpassed 200 career goals in a win over Cardinal Gibbons High School. The team also features Zoey Kucuk-Lake, Dana DeSouza, Samantha Renna, Sydney Larsen, Hannah Pomerantz, Kamar Maaz and Bella Schubow.
