The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team is headed to the Regional Final following a sweep of Southwest High School, featuring a no-hitter and an offensive outburst.
Gio Rojas led the way in the game, tossing 6.1 innings and striking out 12 before reaching his pitch count. Reid Dadic came on in relief and shut the door, recording a strikeout and a lineout to secure the 1-0 victory. The game’s only run came in the first inning.
Cade Raley led off with a triple and later scored on an RBI single by Randy Ruiz. The Eagles finished with nine hits in the win before the offense exploded in game two.
Before Dadic even threw a pitch, MSD led 9-0 after the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Jake Rizzo. Dadic also cleared the bases with a hit, but Southwest responded with four in the home half to cut the lead to 9-4.
However, the Eagles continued to put it on with Rojas also hitting a grand slam and combining with Rizzo to drive in 10 runs. Matthew Toback also knocked in two as the Eagles advanced following a 20-4 win.
The Eagles will await the winner of West Broward and Christopher Columbus High School on Friday, May 8.
