MSD Tennis Recap: Dhea Bagirathan Makes Run to State Final; Competes in Doubles with Risavy

Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ Dhea Bagirithan delivered an outstanding season, leading a deep postseason run that culminated in a State Championship appearance.

After a dominant regular season and a District Championship, Bagirathan, the younger sister of former state champion Savita Bagirathan, carried her momentum into the state tournament, winning two matches to reach the final before ultimately finishing as runner-up. She also showcased her versatility by qualifying for states in doubles alongside partner Zara Risavy, with the pair capturing a District Title.

As a team, the Eagles were equally impressive. They finished the regular season 11-1, with their lone loss coming against an undefeated Cypress Bay squad. In postseason play, MSD secured a team District Championship and opened Regionals with a win over West Broward before falling in the Regional Final to Cypress Bay.

The team features seniors Zara Risavy, Claire Schwartz, Allison Kehler, Sarah Kunar, and Caroline Oliviera. Looking ahead, Bagirathan returns for her senior season, leading a strong core that includes Brianna Loo Martinez, Haleigh Fountain, Martina Velez, and Dylainey Risavy.
