Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball has yet another former player moving his way closer to the MLB.
State Champion Gavin Conticello was officially promoted to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (AA) in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization after setting the single-season hits record for the Hillsboro Hops.
He was an eighth-round pick in the 2022 draft. He hit .301 in high school and had his best season as a senior, winning State and National Championships. He had a pair of home runs and drove in 23 RBIs.
Conticello had 138 hits this year, nine home runs, and 65 RBIs. He leads the Pacific Northwest League in games played with 126. He also ranks second in the league in hits (138), doubles (31), and triples (7), third in batting average (.282), and fifth in OPS (.775).
He has now homered 29 times in his minor league career, driven in 157 runs, and stolen 38 bases. Conticello also changed positions and is playing right field after mostly playing infield during his high school career. He went on to go 1-4 with an RBI in his first game on Tuesday night with his new team before going 1-3 with a walk and run scored on Wednesday.
