After a generous $20,000 donation from Spirit Airlines in 2020, Parkland Cares presented scholarships to two graduates of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School’s class of 2021.
Two $5,000 awards, each for two semesters during the first year of college, were given to Victoria Alvarez and Jeremy Wechsler.
Both Alvarez, a freshman at the University of Florida, and Wechsler, a freshman at the University of South Florida, plan to focus on mental health studies to make a difference in the lives of others for years to come.
Formed following the shooting Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland Cares provides funding and awareness for trauma care and mental health services for those in the South Florida community affected by trauma.
Executive Director Stacey Udine said Spirit Airlines wanted to support the Parkland community. The Broward Education Foundation came on board to ensure the scholarship criteria, including an essay and completion of 100 service hours were met and followed.
