Parkland is expected to broaden its boundaries to include an 8.5-acre parcel on the former Heron Bay Golf Course in Coral Springs – part of a plan to build an upscale fitness club.
Coral Springs city commissioners recently approved the land transfer, city records show, as part of Parkland’s plan to develop commercial and residential projects in the area.
Life Time, formerly known as Life Time Fitness, offers memberships at various price points, from around $100 for a standard membership to higher price points with amenity packages. The basic package includes access to gyms, swimming pools, the chain’s high-end locker rooms, and workout studios offering a range of classes.
Officials said Parkland would compensate Coral Springs for the land transfer, but the numbers have yet to be finalized.
The real estate moves are part of Parkland’s plan to develop businesses and homes on 65 acres of land Parkland purchased from the North Springs Improvement District in 2022.
The city’s larger vision includes the planned “Village in the Park” project, a downtown-like area with farmers’ markets, food trucks, walking trails, retail shops, and green space.
In the same area, Toll Brothers home builders plan to develop a new, upscale community in Heron Bay featuring 52 homes.
Records show that Coral Springs also owns land in the area that could be developed for future projects.
Coral Springs’ transfer of the 8.5 acres to Parkland as part of the Life Time deal has a caveat; It hinges on Parkland selling a separate, neighboring plot of land—a little over nine acres—to Life Time for development.
Coral Springs and Parkland officials worked out elements of their deal at a joint workshop earlier this year.
