This is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through September 9, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents.
Threats / Intimidation
A victim of Threats / Intimidation was reported on 09/03/2024.
Theft
A victim of Theft From a Building was reported on 09/05/2024. The total estimated loss was $13,500. The victim advised that she noticed jewelry missing from her residence after returning from a trip. The only people who had access to her residence were her cleaning crew. The jewelry missing included a diamond engagement ring, diamond wedding band, gold necklace, and gold earrings.
Extortion / Blackmail
A victim of Extortion / Blackmail was reported on 09/05/2024. The victim received an email demanding money be sent in Bitcoin, or they would release their browsing history to friends and family. No direct threats of violence were made.
Information
Information was reported on 09/05/2024. A verbal dispute between an AAA driver and a Homeowner was reported.
Information was reported on 09/09/2024. The reporting person advised that her twelve-year-old son fell from a motorized scooter that he borrowed from a friend. While riding, the handlebar started shaking, and he lost control. Upon falling, he struck his head against the asphalt. The child was conscious and coherent but could not remember the incident. Coral Springs Parkland Fire Rescue 109 responded and, due to the head injury, transported the juvenile for evaluation.
Information was reported on 09/06/2024. A deputy was dispatched regarding a disturbance call involving 3-4 unknown males shouting and yelling at the victim and her dog.
Suspicious Incident
A victim of a Suspicious Incident was reported on 09/05/2024. A deputy was dispatched to investigate a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that an unknown tow truck had entered the community without permission.
Fire
A victim of Fire on NW 82 Terrace was reported on 09/09/2024. An adult female was walking her dog in the early morning when she observed smoke coming from the neighbor’s home. She contacted 911 which immediately dispatched deputies and fire rescue service. The fire was contained in a barn at the rear of the residence. No one was inside at the time.
Fraud
A victim of Fraud—All Other was reported on 09/09/2024. The total estimated loss was $3,800. The victim had her check made out to her HOA stolen, and it was changed to deposit a larger amount of money into an unauthorized account.
