As Hurricane Helene threatened Martin County, an adorable black and white Labrador mix named Penny found herself on the move.
After months of waiting at a shelter, Penny was evacuated to the Humane Society of Broward County, where she is now seeking a loving forever home. This sweet, 3-year-old pup was initially shy and had to be carried into the shelter, but she’s since blossomed into a playful and loving dog.
Volunteers say Penny’s favorite activities include enjoying treats, going for car rides, and showing off her skills—she already knows how to sit and lie down! She’s also quite social with other dogs, so a meet-and-greet is recommended if you already have a furry friend at home. Penny’s active nature means she would thrive with a family that loves to run and play. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a lot of love to give, Penny might be the perfect match.
For feline lovers, the Humane Society has plenty of adorable kittens waiting for homes, but one standout is Jungle Queen (ID 689213), a stunning 3-year-old calico with green eyes and medium-length hair. Sadly, Jungle Queen was surrendered by her previous family due to a move. Now, she’s on the lookout for a quiet, loving home where she can relax and adjust to her new surroundings.
This beautiful calico enjoys playing with laser toys and might want to snuggle up in bed with her new owner. Jungle Queen may need a little time to settle into a new environment, but with patience and love, she’s sure to become a cherished companion.
To meet Penny (ID 689017), Jungle Queen (ID 689213), or any of the other wonderful animals waiting for homes, visit the Humane Society of Broward County at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL. The adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m., and no appointment is required. You can also complete a pre-adoption application online at www.humanebroward.com.
If you’re not in a position to adopt but still want to help, consider donating online or visiting the Pet Boutique at the shelter. The Humane Society also offers microchipping and vaccination services to ensure your pets stay healthy.
