The 12th annual walk-off for cancer will be held in Parkland on December 3, 2023, by The Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation.
Rizzo, a World Series Champion with the Chicago Cubs, is currently playing for the New York Yankees but is on the injured list.
Diagnosed at 18 with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he endured six months of chemotherapy. In 2012, he created his foundation to help families in their fight against cancer and make an impact on the pediatric cancer community.
In 2022, the foundation raised $1.3 million and had 1,000 people attend, along with more than 200 virtual walkers as well said Abby Suarez, Executive Director of the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, adding the kid zone, which featured inflatables, balloon artists, face painters, and i9 sports with different activities and obstacles set up will all return.
“It’s always a great morning where the community comes together to show families facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis that they aren’t alone… they have a team to support and get them through this difficult time,” said Suarez.
The 5K walk begins Sunday, December 3, at 9 a.m. at Pine Trails Park at 10555 Trails End.
Each in-person registrant receives a gift bag, including an event t-shirt, Nike drawstring bag, and Dream Big Hat. Registration is available online here.
