The Original 2024 Florida Pokers did it again on Wednesday, winning the Palm Beach Classic with a perfect 8-0 record.
They outscored their opponents 45-8 in the tournament and are now 13-1 on the season. The Pokers had 12 players drive in runs, with Anthony Quigley hitting the lone home run and knocking in six along while Rylan Lujo.
Ethan Askin, Andrew Raucci, Gavin Gargiulo, Niko Benestad, Reese Burton, E.J. Burns, Alejandro Sardinas, Alex Rodriguez, and Alejandra Vasquez all knocked in runs. On the mound, J.P. Queralas, Javi Miranda, Dane Rosi, Raucci, Gargiulo, Jayden Dubanewicz, Breylynn Courtney, and Christian Millikan earned wins.
“I thought the kids showed great fight and resiliency. They competed hard all week,” Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald said. “We really pitched great. Ethan Askin was a warrior, and Gavin Gargiulo and Anthony Quigley sparked our offense. It was a great week of baseball excited for the rest of the summer.
Next, The Pokers will compete in the BCS National Championship starting on Saturday after winning last year’s title.
While Devin Fitz-Gerald is usually out on the field with the Pokers, he was invited to play in Cary, North Carolina, with the US National Team Championship. Devin was picked to play for the Canes, helped his team win six games, and had an RBI single in the Championship Game.
“It felt great to win the tournament and to win the medal,” Devin said. “Our team was locked in the whole week, and we did what we needed to do and took care of business and brought home a gold medal. Starting off the first tournament and one of the biggest with a championship is definitely a boost for the rest of this summer.”
