Marjory Stoneman Douglas had three teams already in action this week, with two teams competing in Regionals and two in the District Championship.
The flag football team dropped only its second game of the year, losing 14-0 against the defending State Champions at Miami Palmetto High School. Both touchdowns the Eagles allowed came in the first half as they finished the season 13-2 after winning their second straight District Championship and opening the Regional Playoff Game.
Samantha Calavetta threw for 120 yards and finished the season with 2,775 yards and 43 touchdowns. Courtney Heymach was tied for the team lead with nine receiving touchdowns and had seven rushing scores. Audrey Haltiwanger and Sophia Dal Molin each also caught nine passes for a score, while Mickayla Sugrano and Savannah Tenore had five.
Ava Kelleher and Daria Boykin combined for five, while Caitlin Taylor, Dianna Doherty, and Calavetta all scored one. Defensively, Boykin, Doherty, Taylor, and Caravello led the team in flags pulled, while the team had 56 sacks and picked off 260 passes. The Eagles will head into next season with another talented team, but will have Samantha Orr, Dal Molin, Daria Boykin, and Tenore all graduate this year.
The girls lacrosse team earned the fourth seed in the Regional Championship and knocked off Spanish River Community High School in their opening game of Regionals. Kaitlyn Irwin and Aubrey Kasen each scored four goals, while Chloe Resnik recorded three and also had five assists. Patricia Phang added two goals along with one from Mary Denvey, and Caroline Lamb also found the back of the net before losing 17-2 against top-seeded Vero Beach High School. The Eagles finished the season 10-8 after previously winning one game in the District Championship. Their seniors this year are Irwin and Phang.
The softball team had a tremendous regular season but was beaten by Coral Glades in their first game, 5-1. They entered the postseason with a record of 12-10, which also included the Eagles competing in the Big 8 Championship.
However, they lost 5-1 against Coral Glades, despite beating them 6-4 in their first meeting of the year. The Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth, which came on an RBI from Caliegh D’Agati. Addison Zajkowski, Anonia Nelke, Camryn Ferro, and Myah Boleen all had hits. Zajkowski tossed a complete game and struck out five.

The boys volleyball team lost 16-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 in the opening round after entering the District Championship as the fifth seed. The Eagles concluded their season with six wins in 12 games following victories against J.P. Taravella, Coral Glades, Coral Springs Charter, South Plantation, Plantation, and Coral Springs High School. They will have three seniors graduate this year: Diego Palacios, Luis Silva, and Glauer Nogueira.
The baseball team will begin action in the Regional Semifinals on Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m. against J.P. Taravella. The Eagles will also have several track and field runners compete in the Regional Championship later this week, as the tennis team previously had both the boys’ and girls’ teams win District Championships.
