Images of the scary momo woman struck panic across the world, with warnings of a dangerous “suicide game” targeting children on social media. The good news is this ended up being a hoax. Sadly, this hoax was fueled by media reports, and escalated parents’ fears about their children’s online activity.
The challenge captured the fears of parents everywhere, and in response, Park Trails Principal Manville is holding an Internet safety session, designed for parents of elementary school age children in Parkland.
At the previous schools she worked for, Principal Manville hosted a similar workshop and parents found the information useful. The Cyber Security and Internet Safety Session will take place on Tuesday, March 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Park Trails Elementary School.
The session, open to all elementary schools in the Stoneman Douglas zone will feature cyber security experts from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and a representative from Internet Crimes Against Children addressing concerns related to protecting children from Internet predators. Some topics will include parental controls, as well as apps and websites that may seem harmless – however, aren’t appropriate for young children.
