The Montalto Foundation hopes to ‘egg’ceed its goal of 18,000 eggs delivered for this year’s Egg My Lawn event in honor of Gina.
A victim of the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, Gina enjoyed the thrill of the hunt on Easter morning, said her mother, Jennifer, to Parkland Talk.
“For the 7th consecutive year, our group will deliver and hide eggs on Easter Eve. As with previous years, we will also include SOS Children’s Village and the Friendship Journey as recipients and spread kindness.”
Since its inception, the Gina Rose Montalto Memorial Foundation has been committed to awarding students with the cost of post-secondary education, as well as making charitable contributions to causes Gina supported.
In 2020, in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation introduced a nursing scholarship to help bolster the ranks of frontline healthcare workers, which they still award annually today.
“This event is particularly meaningful to our family and has grown each year through grassroots support, word of mouth, and local publications like yours that help us spread the word,” said Jennifer, adding that many of the “sweet little faces” that have received eggs from their “Bunnies” are now old enough to be “Bunnies” themselves.
‘Easter Bunnies’ deliver a combination of candy and toy-filled plastic eggs to participating homes on Saturday, March 30, the evening before Easter.
This year, families can either have their eggs delivered in a bag for them to hide or have the ‘Bunnies’ place/hide the eggs on their front lawn.
Delivery will be between 8 p.m. and midnight. ‘Bunnies’ ask that sprinklers be turned off that night and that all pets be leashed and crated during delivery.
‘Bunnies’ will also leave a sign on the lawn to let neighbors know of the generous support to the Foundation.
