Lavinia “Vini” Bellusci, a cherished member of the Parkland community and devoted dominos player, passed away on July 19, 2024, at 91.
Known for her competitive spirit and warm presence, Vini spent her Friday afternoons playing with friends at the Parkland Library, an activity she cherished until the very end.
During one of their regular games, Vini began to feel unwell and decided to leave early. She sought medical care but, sadly, passed away shortly after, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew her.
In her honor, the group dedicated a leaf on the Parkland Library Giving Tree, marking her memory with a permanent tribute and celebrating her life and contributions to the community.
The group held a brief ceremony on Friday, placing the leaf in her honor and sharing fond memories of their time with Vini.
Sandy Lobel, the leader of the dominoes group, described Vini as a feisty player.
“She strategized and would make a joke when she won the game,” adding that Vini was a caring and very community-involved person.
Vini was born on December 11, 1932, in Pauling, New York. She was married to Joseph Bellusci for 63 years before his passing in 2016. The couple lived much of their lives in Mount Kisco, New York, and Connecticut, where Vini held various office management positions.
After retiring to Florida, Vini continued working until she retired for the second time at 83.
Her contributions to the community extended beyond the domino table. Vini was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent DePaul at St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church and was well-loved for her commitment to helping others.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Scala, and four grandsons.
