A large fire broke out at a Parkland guest house Monday morning, requiring firefighters to spend several hours battling the flames.
Authorities started receiving calls about the blaze at the structure, which doubles as a barn in the 7300 block of Northwest 82nd Terrace, around 5 a.m.
By 10:30 a.m., the fire was out, and only smoldering hot spots were remaining, said Mike Moser, deputy chief of the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital for treatment related to the fire’s heat. He is expected to be OK, authorities said.
Firefighters also ushered several chickens and a rabbit to safety. No animals or civilians were hurt, Moser said.
The firefighting effort required some extra strategizing due to the fire’s size and location, authorities said. Since there were no fire hydrants in the area, firefighters used a pond around the corner from the home to draft water and use it to battle the flames, Moser said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
