This is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through September 2, 2024, compiled through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents.
Theft
A victim of Theft From Building was reported on 08/28/2024. The total estimated loss was $500. The victim advised that a realtor viewing her home for sale removed a Dyson vacuum valued at $500 from the interior and left the residence. The realtor was recorded on a Ring camera placing the vacuum in his vehicle and leaving the location. He was then contacted by the listing agent by phone and told to return the vacuum. The realtor returned to the property and left the vacuum at the front door. The owner was aware of the incident and observed it as it occurred.
BJ’s Wholesale was a Theft—retail / Shoplifting victim at 5901 W Hillsboro Blvd, reported on 08/29/2024. The total estimated loss was $88. BJ’s employees stated that three unknown suspects ran out of the store with unpaid liquor bottles.
Burglary
A victim of Burglary Residence / Burglary Conveyance was reported on 08/30/2024. The total estimated loss was $1,001. Entry was obtained into the residence with a garage door opener left in an unlocked vehicle. The vehicle was later stolen, and the key FOB was found inside the residence.
A victim of Burglary Residence (Occupied) & Burglary Conveyance was reported on 08/30/2024. The total estimated loss was $530. While on a cruise, the victim was alerted by his Ring security camera of three subjects inside his home. They gained access via the garage (clicker used to enter his unlocked BMW in the driveway).
Lost Property
A victim of Lost Property was reported on 08/30/2024. An adult female reported leaving an electric scooter in the trunk of an Uber ride-share after arriving at her destination. She could not track the driver and notify them of her forgotten property.
A victim of Lost Property was reported on 09/01/2024. The reporting person advised that she was dropped off at her residence via Uber and forgot her laptop in the vehicle. She has not been able to get in contact with the Uber driver.
Fraud
A victim of Fraud—Credit Card/ATM was reported on 08/30/2024. An adult female advised that she hired a Private Duty Aide to assist with the care of an elderly male in the home. It was later discovered that the PDA may have used their credit cards for unauthorized online purchases.
Fire
A victim of Fire on NW 82 Terrace was reported on 09/01/2024. BSO units and CSPFD responded to a residential fire. Upon arrival, smoke could be seen coming out of the attic side vent and the roofing facia. CSPFD quickly entered the house and extinguished the fire. The fire inspector arrived on the scene and determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
Information
Information was reported on 09/02/2024. The reporting person wanted to document that a squirrel fell from a tree that the HOA owned and attacked his dog. The dog ended up killing the squirrel and the dog was not hurt.
Information was reported on 09/02/2024. The reporting person advised of an ongoing issue with the neighbor over dog poop on his lawn. The reporting person advised that the neighbor came onto his property and smeared the dog poop on his back patio with a shovel.
This information was reported on 09/02/2024. The reporting person wished to document unwanted messages she had received from another person on social media.
