The run for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team continued on July 27-29, with Bennett Gary being named Dicks Sports Player of the Game at the PBR Futures Event in Atlanta.
This game features the country’s top uncommitted high school baseball players, with over 150 college coaches in attendance. Gary went 2-3 in the game with a home run with two RBIs for Team Florida and then added another hit in his third game. He is entering his junior year and was joined by Nick Diaz, who also hit a home run at the event.
“I had a great day at the plate, and it was an honor to be recognized as the MVP of the game,” Gary said. “I’m also very proud to be representing Stoneman Douglas as a part of Team Florida.”
Gary had only one at-bat in the regular season but went on to play five games postseason, including two hits in his first game and a triple and three RBIs in the final. He started the season out on the junior varsity team, where he hit a pair of home runs and also went 4-0 on the mound with 22.2 shutout innings and has carried that over with the Original Florida Pokers. The 2024 team went 32-1-1 and won their final four tournaments, while the 2025 team finished the summer with 19 wins.
