Marjory Stoneman Douglas graduate Devin Fitz-Gerald was a key piece in a blockbuster trade Thursday afternoon, as he was dealt to the Washington Nationals in exchange for left-hander McKenzie Gore.
Fitz-Gerald, a four-time state champion with the Eagles, was one of five top Texas Rangers prospects included in the deal. He was traded alongside the Rangers’ No. 2 prospect Gavin Fien, Alejandro Rosario (No. 6), Trevor Remy Cabrera (No. 16), and Abimelec Ortiz (No. 18).
Fitz-Gerald played four years of high school baseball at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, where he hit 11 home runs and drove in 63 runs.
As a professional, he has appeared in four minor league games across two levels, homering six times. He has also recorded 13 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs, and eight stolen bases.
