Marjory Stoneman Douglas had a busy week of athletes to start the week, with the golf and bowling teams competing in Districts on Monday.
The boys golf finished four shots behind Coral Glades, with Evan Mazanec tying for fifth overall with a 74. Josh Lieberman came in sixth with a 76, while Ryan Simony added a 77. Jayden Thurasingham also competed and recorded a 78.
“We’re happy to be moving on to the next round of playoffs, but we know we could have played better golf today, which doesn’t sit too well with us,” Head Coach Darren Levine said. “We’re looking toward next week, where we can bring everything together that we’ve worked on throughout the season.”
The girls team also finished in second place, and one shot back of Spanish River Community School, led by Sutton Oosterhuis, shooting an 80. She finished tied for fifth, followed by Ella Thompson, Ella Mamane, Cassidy Charles, and Sophia Alcala-Marks.
Head Coach Jonathan Smith said it was a tough day on the course with the course playing tough.
“They battled and ultimately were able to have a chance for the win on the last hole,” Smith said. “Unfortunately, we came up one stroke short. All in all, it’s a pretty good tournament, and it’s time to get prepared for the regionals next week.”
Next, these teams will compete in Regionals with a chance to clinch their spot in the State Championship.
