The Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys and girls soccer teams are each headed to the District Final following their wins this past week.
The boys team earned the one seed and had a bye in the opening round before beating Spanish River Community High School in the semifinals 6-1 on Thursday. Aquiles Yibirin factored into all six goals, scoring three and recording three assists. Luis Delgado scored a goal and an assist, while Nolan Alba and Anthony Carnuccio scored.
The Eagles will play Boca Raton Community High School in the final after they beat Coral Glades in penalty kicks in the semifinals. They came into the postseason seed as the third seed and beat J.P. Taravella in the quarterfinals after winning 13 games in the regular season.
The girls team beat Western High School and is set to play for their seventh straight District Title. They earned the one seed and had a bye in the opening round as Western beat Coral Glades. Alexa Jourdan had a hat-trick to lead the way while Alessia Frenquellucci scored twice, and Audrey Haltiwanger, Madysen Filsaime, and Laina Engelhardt all found the back of the net.
MSD will play second-seeded Spanish River Community High School in the Final on Tuesday, January 28, at 5 p.m. The Sharks also had a bye in their first game and went on to beat J.P. Taravella in the semifinals to improve to 11-2-3 this year. They had one of those ties against the Eagles in their only meeting earlier this year on December 16.
