Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School turned energy and compassion into action on Saturday, raising $24,000 for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital during their annual Dance Marathon.
Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the event brought together approximately 200 students, families, and local businesses, all working toward a shared goal of supporting children and families in need.
The student-led initiative was organized by senior class presidents Nicole Agami and Romi Samara, who guided months of planning to bring the event to life. Their leadership helped create a day filled with music, dancing, and community engagement, all centered around fundraising and awareness.
Sophomore Zoey Green emerged as the top student fundraiser, contributing an impressive $1,500 toward the total. She said that joining the Dance Marathon program showed her how much impact she can have directly on her community.
“I fundraise to help kids like my grandmother, who had polio due to the vaccination, and she was one of the few who, with financial support from the children’s hospital, was able to fully recover and walk again. I aim to provide these same resources to more children to help them live full and healthy lives.”
Local businesses also played a key role in the event’s success, donating products, services, and time to support the cause. Participating vendors included Pasquale’s Pizza in Coral Springs, Ernie’s Açaí Bowls, Monster Mini Golf, Glazed and Fueled Donuts, W Salon, Grillo’s Pickles, Mona’s Boutique, Crunch Coral Springs, and Los Bocados.
Throughout the day, students rotated through activities, danced, and shared stories about the hospital’s impact, keeping the focus on the children and families who benefit from the funds raised.
Dance Marathon events are part of a larger, nationwide movement led by students to support children’s hospitals.
