Marjory Stoneman Douglas Baseball Team Wins on Senior Night

The Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team held senior night on Thursday and picked up a 3-2 win over Key West High School.

The Eagles recognized Abraham Halaoui, Randy Ruiz, Lorenzo Laurel, Matthew Toback, Angel Rodriguez, Gio Rojas, Cade Raley, Carter McGuinn, Jake Rizzo, Zack Weiselberg, Drew Boivin, and Reid Dadic. Raley, Rizzo, Ruiz, Rojas and Dadic were also selected to represent the team at the High School Baseball Network All Star Game.

Following the ceremony, MSD got another incredible outing from Rojas as he tossed a complete game, striking out 11. The Eagles led 1-0 following an RBI from Rodriguez, scoring Laurel. The score stayed the same until the sixth when Key West scored two runs to take a brief 2-1 lead, but the Eagles regained with two in the home half following RBIs from Ander Eloriaga and Raley. In the last inning, Rojas struck out the first two hitters before getting the final out on a line drive to right field.

The Eagles then resumed play on Tuesday against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School. The game was stopped after two innings with MSD leading 2-0. Dadic, who pitched the first two innings, returned and threw 3.1 more scoreless innings before Tyler Stertzbach got four outs and Bianchi recorded the save. Rodriguez, Raley, and Rojas all drove in runs to help the Eagles improve to 19-5.

MSD will enter the District Tournament as the top seed and will face J.P. Taravella in the opening round on April 14 at 6 p.m. The Trojans have a record of 11-13 this year. The winner of this game will play either Coral Glades or Western High School in the District Championship Game.
