As they prepare for the Firecracker Classic baseball tournament, the Parkland Pokers 10U Travel Baseball team is making its pitch to the community.
The team comprised of incoming fifth and sixth graders is fundraising by selling baseball pop-its for $13 each.
Coached by Joe Cossuto and managed by Shawn Sackman, the 10U Pokers play together for the second year. This is the last tournament of the summer until play resumes in August.
Sackman said the boys, most of whom live in Parkland, have yet to travel far because of Covid-19. He expects the tournament to be a great learning experience the children will probably remember for the rest of their lives.
The Firecracker Classic, held in Melbourne, Florida, from July 2 – 6, will have teams from Florida and the southeastern United States attending.
“It’s a big deal going to the Space Coast Complex,” said Sackman, “It will continue their growth and development both as players and young men.”
Anyone interested in purchasing a pop-it should Venmo $13 to @melissa-sackman and include a name and phone number.
