The Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida recently welcomed new leadership, including Parkland residents Jennifer Montalto and Eliani Carr-Betts, who bring passion and dedication to the organization.
At the annual meeting, Tula Hudson-Miller and Kimberly Kisslan were reelected as chair and vice chair. Additionally, four new board members and two Girl Advisory Members were introduced.
Among the newly appointed board members is Jennifer Montalto, co-founder of the Gina Rose Montalto Memorial Foundation.
Established in honor of her daughter, the foundation provides financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education and supports charitable causes close to Gina’s heart. Montalto and the foundation are longstanding supporters of the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, including sponsorship of the Silver Award Showcase and an annual scholarship for Girl Scouts earning the esteemed Gold Award.
Also joining the leadership team as a Girl Advisory Member is Eliani Carr-Betts, an 11th-grade student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.
Having already earned Bronze and Silver Awards, Carr-Betts is currently working toward her Gold Award. She serves as an 11th-grade senator and social media manager, has introduced Girl Scouts to Drake Irish Dance, and actively participates in overnight camping and product sales initiatives.
Other new board members include:
- Mary Gavin, managing partner at Sol Foods LLC, is a retired franchise executive and consultant with over 30 years of experience in the food industry.
- Shirley Gordon, Professor Emeritus at FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, is a nationally certified expert in school nursing and holistic health.
- Charles Michelson, principal of Saltz Michelson Architects, specializing in medical and government architecture, and a longtime advocate for Girl Scouts.
Ella Evans, a 10th-grade student at Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School in Lake Worth, has also been named an advisory member. A Bronze and Silver Awards recipient, Evans is an inaugural member of the CEO Girl Advisory Committee, a member of GSSEF Media Girlz since 2020, and a top seller with the CEO Extreme Team. She is active in Jack and Jill of America Inc., serving as corresponding secretary on its Teen Executive Board, and participates in Future Health Professionals, STEM enrichment programs, and Key Club at her school.
Returning board members include Kathleen Hillman, Deborah Johnson, Katrina Long-Robinson, Nancy Proffitt, Ofelia Utset, Denise Valz, and Kenyatta Connaway.
Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, highlighted the impact of these leaders.
“The strength of our organization lies in the dedication of our board members, who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to further our mission. With this dynamic leadership team, we are poised to expand opportunities for Girl Scouts throughout Southeast Florida and continue building a strong foundation for the future.”
