Two men were found dead in a canal after a single-vehicle crash in Parkland on Friday involving a car that fled from police, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Jerome Turner, 32, and Kelby Broward-Richardson, 31, were discovered lifeless in the water near Nob Hill Road and Loxahatchee Road, investigators said.
Detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit said the crash involved a 2025 BMW X1 that was initially fleeing from the Sunrise Police Department in reference to an incident in their jurisdiction. Investigators said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when an officer lost sight of it.
While searching for the car near a roundabout and t-shaped intersection, the officer spotted the BMW in a canal on the north side of Loxahatchee Road in Parkland, according to BSO.
A short time later, Anthony Davis, 26, of Plantation, was arrested by Sunrise Police in connection with the incident.
Authorities said Turner and Broward-Richardson could not immediately be found, and it was unknown at the time whether they were in the canal or had fled on foot.
BSO’s aviation, K-9, drone units, and dive team searched the area throughout the day but initially did not find the two men, authorities said.
Later that evening, the BSO Dive Team found both men dead in the canal, according to the agency.
Investigators said excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
Additional information about the incident was not immediately made public.
