Sophia El Chantiry is one of the top high school swimmers in the nation.
A member of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) High School girls’ swim team, she has qualified for the state championships every year since her freshman year.
Last year, El Chantiry, now a senior, competed in the state championships in the 100-yard butterfly and the 50-yard freestyle. She also competes in the backstroke.
“I believe I will qualify for the state championship meet this year. It takes dedication, and you must attend practice every day. I think you have to enjoy swimming to be good at it, and I love to swim,” said El Chantiry.
In addition to swimming, El Chantiry has a 4.7 grade point average and enjoys studying science and biology.
One of El Chantiry’s most significant swimming accomplishments was earning a position on the Lebanon national swim team. She has competed in international swimming competitions and aspires to represent her country in the Olympics.
