Angel Rodriguez of Marjory Stoneman Douglas comes from a family of baseball players, and now he will join his older brother and cousin at the collegiate level after committing to Eastern Florida State College.
“It feels great to commit to play college baseball. It’s like a dream come true and a step in the journey,” Angel said.
Angel began playing baseball at five years old in Pony League before transitioning to travel ball. He competed for teams such as the Parkland Pokers, BID National, and the Florida Pokers before earning a spot on the junior varsity team at MSD.
Last season, Angel was part of the Eagles’ fifth straight State Championship team and their fourth National Title. His biggest hit of the season came against Palmer Trinity when he blasted a grand slam in a 10-1 win. Angel currently has four RBIs and has scored six runs, helping MSD get off to a 7-3 start.
“It feels great being a part of the program, seeing them win and then being a part of the team last season,” Angel added.
When it came time to choose a college, Angel felt that Eastern Florida State College was the right fit. He said he felt comfortable during his visit and enjoyed seeing former teammates already on the roster.
Angel now joins his brother Alex at the collegiate level as he began his career at the University of Central Florida and is currently playing at Pasco-Hernando State College, while his cousin, Christian, plays for the University of Florida.
