Marjory Stoneman Douglas 2024 graduate Morgan Goldman has made history by becoming a member of the first-ever NCAA Division I scholarship flag football team at Alabama State University.
Goldman, who is also a scholarship athlete on the university’s women’s soccer team, is breaking barriers while representing her hometown of Parkland on a national stage.
“It’s an honor to be part of the first-ever women’s NCAA D1 flag football program and make history,” Goldman said. “Being able to continue playing the sport I love means so much to me. Seeing all my hard work pay off over the years is just incredible.”
Goldman’s journey to this historic milestone began in Parkland, where she discovered flag football in sixth grade and fell in love with the sport during her high school years. Her father, Adam Goldman, a coach at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, helped nurture her passion and skill. At MSD, Morgan was a four-year captain, dominating defensively with 234 flag pulls, 18 sacks, 8 Interceptions, and three returned for touchdowns. Her leadership was pivotal in securing the school’s first District Championship in 14 years.
After her freshman year as a soccer player at Alabama State, Goldman dedicated herself to achieving a spot on the flag football team as well. She attended tryouts four times a week, spending hours learning plays, drills, and strategies. Her hard work, determination, and love for the game paid off as she earned a place on this groundbreaking team.
Goldman’s impact extends far beyond her athletic achievements. She helped create the Girls Turkey Bowl, an annual Thanksgiving event for 5th to 9th graders, helping foster a love for the game among younger players in the community. As the Student Government Association president at MSD, she exemplified leadership on and off the field. Last year, her athletics and community service efforts earned her a $1,000 Champions of Charity Scholarship.
Goldman says her goal is to prove to young girls that flag football isn’t just a recreational pastime but a pathway to national recognition and collegiate opportunities. For the Parkland community, Goldman’s success is a source of pride and inspiration. She’s proving to young girls that flag football isn’t just a recreational pastime but a pathway to national recognition and collegiate opportunities.
Her journey embodies the growing movement for women in sports, with flag football gaining momentum at all levels, including the NCAA and even the Olympics.
