Parkland Talk Crime Update

Through our joint effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office to share updates with residents, this is a summary of crimes and other Parkland incidents through May 22, 2023.

Suspicious Incident

A suspicious Incident on W Hillsboro Blvd was reported on: 05/16/2023. The victim was sitting on a bench in the park, reading a book. A male, about 30, approached her. He offered to tutor her and mentioned he used to be a teacher. She gave him her cell phone number and said she had to go. She walked in the opposite direction and went home. The male began sending text messages offering to tutor and mentioned he does charity work with elephants in India and asked if she wanted to come over and help.

Information on University Drive was reported on: 05/18/2023. A student was searched due to suspicious activity. The student was found in possession of a vape pen and a small mace spray. The student was reprimanded by the principal, and a parent was notified. School security took possession of the items.

Information on NW 66 Drive was reported on: 05/21/2023. A fourteen-year-old male juvenile was fishing by the lake just north of NW 66th Drive. The juvenile tripped over a fishing line and fell into three feet of water down from a wet angled concrete embankment. The juvenile was assisted out of the water by other fishermen.

Auto Theft

A victim of Auto Theft on NW 83 Place was reported on: 05/16/2023. Unknown suspect(s) took the victim’s 2022 BMW X5 that was parked in her driveway. The victim has both key fobs to the vehicle.


A victim of Counterfeiting on Meridian Drive was reported on: 05/18/2023. The victim advised unknown suspect(s) attempted to deposit a counterfeit check into his Bank of America account via the mobile app.

Found Property

Found Property on University Drive was reported on: 05/19/2023.  Found property related to a complainant who wanted to turn in a firearm. He advised that back in April 2018, he purchased a Bushmaster AR rifle which he wanted to surrender to BSO as he no longer had any use for it.  The rifle was subsequently placed for destruction.

Information on NW 87 Avenue was reported on: 05/19/2023. A handgun was turned in for destruction.


A victim of Battery was reported on: 05/19/2023. A physical altercation resulted in the defendant being placed under arrest for battery.

Threats / Intimidation

A victim of Threats / Intimidation was reported on: 05/21/2023. 

Theft – All Other

A victim of Theft – All Other Horizon Road was reported on: 05/21/2023. The total estimated loss was: $9,000. The homeowner/victim had an open house. He noticed two wrist watches missing from his master bedroom closet afterward. He believes someone that came to the open house took the watches.


No arrests reported.
