A man is facing a felony charge after he allegedly hid his cell phone in a bathroom inside a coffee shop to record customers secretly using the restroom.
According to a Broward County Sheriff’s report, Christopher Turk, 31, of Parkland was arrested on April 22 and charged with one count of video voyeurism after a series of witness reports, surveillance footage, and a confession led Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies to believe he intentionally placed his phone in a position to record bathroom users on at least three separate occasions.
Records show the investigation began the previous day when an anonymous customer alerted staff with a handwritten note warning of suspicious behavior. The note, folded and labeled “Management,” described a man in a gray T-shirt with “maintenance” written on the back, allegedly seen placing a phone in the restroom’s toiletry drawer. The note also claimed video evidence would show him doing it.
The report has been redacted to conceal the location where the incident occurred.
The report indicates that employees quickly shared the warning in an internal chat, and on April 22, one worker recognized the suspect upon his entry into the café. After Turk ordered a drink and used the restroom, the staff checked the bathroom and found a phone hidden in a basket with its camera pointed at the toilet.
A photo of the discovery was taken and shared with the store manager, who instructed staff to contact police.
Detectives arrived on the scene and recovered the phone. Turk, who remained at the coffee shop, was approached by deputies and voluntarily stayed to speak with officers. Upon questioning, records show he confessed to placing the phone in the restroom on three different dates: April 14, April 18, and April 22. He also admitted to viewing the camera feed through his Apple Watch.
According to the report, Turk further admitted that the phone contained recordings of unknown individuals using the restroom and stated that the videos were stored in a hidden folder on the device.
Deputies noted Turk had previously been under investigation for a similar offense in 2022.
At this time, authorities do not know how many individuals may have been recorded or whether additional locations were involved. Arrest records indicate Turk’s place of employment as Embassy Suites, located at 1100 Southeast 17th Street.
The case remains under investigation, and the phone has been taken into evidence pending the execution of a search warrant.
Turk was arrested and transported to the Broward County Main Jail.
