The Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls’ tennis team has produced a state champion in Savita Bagіrathan.
She competed individually and completed a perfect season in singles.
“Winning States for my team and school was so special, and it was worth all the hard work,” Bagіrathan said.” It was the best feeling when my team ran out on the court cheering after the final.”
As a team, the Eagles advanced to the State Championship after winning all their matches in Districts and Regionals. They went on to win their quarterfinal match against Boone High School after losing in a tight matchup against Lake Nona High School. The boys did not advance as a team, but Dennis Oliveira and Danny Platovsky reached the final in doubles to compete for the best season in Marjory Stoneman Douglas’s history.
All the state qualifiers will return next season, while the Eagles have three seniors set to graduate: Eesha Kondlapudi, Cameron Schuller, and Emilio Liompart.
