Marjory Stoneman Douglas cross country is underway this season, with the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competing in three races, highlighted by the girls’ win in their third race.
The boys’ team started the season by finishing sixth in their opening meet at Quiet Waters Park, with Matthew Rosenberg in sixth place individually. Coby Alhadeff was the second MSD runner to finish in 20th place, followed by Alexander Spadaccini, Caleb Walker, Calyx Olsen, Joseph Farabaugh, Isaac Reyes, Nicholas Perez, Alexander Holmes, Colton Pattok, Jake Stein, Harry Torres, and James Mills.
The girl’s team came in third place, with Sophia Zengotita placing seventh at 22:48. Noa Norman came in 16th, with Sparta Koumoutsakis and Cecilia Gago finishing in the top 20. Carissa Marvel and Rebecca Bridger finished seconds apart, followed by Mia Fernandez, Jada Pfingsten, Antonella Rodriguez, Mikayla Ryan, Taryn Bander, Alina Keeney, Alaina Alba, Isabella Rodriguez, and Kalli Wheeler.
The Eagles then rat South Country Regional Paek in Boca Raton on Saturday, with the boys finishing 26th overall as a team. Rosenberg had the top time against at 18:08.5, followed by Walker, Spadaccini, Joseph Farabaugh, Perez, Reyes, Holmes, Torres, and Mills.
The girls placed 17th, led by Zengotita’s top time at 23:46.3 to finish 64th. Koumoutsakis was next to place 71st, followed by Morgan Melchiorri in the top 100. Gago, Nierman, Fernandez, Marvel, Bridger, Bander, and Ryanall also raced for MSD.
Antonella Rodriguez led the girls to a seventh-place finish in the junior varsity race, placing 25th overall. Pfingsten, Rodriguez, Alba Keeney, Gia Capistrano, and Khalli Wheeler.
In their last race on Tuesday, the boys finished fourth overall at Markham Park. Noah Alba competed in his first race and placed third overall at 18:23.7, while Rosenberg placed tenth. Spadaccini, Reyes, Farabaugh, Perez, Homles, Stein, Torres, Mills and Partook also raced.
The girls took first, with Zengotita winning the race, followed by Shwartz, Gage, and Norman in the top ten. Koumoutsakis, Melchiorri, Ryan, Bridger, Fernandez, Marvel, Bander, Alba, Olympia, Sanchez,Antonella, Krout, Isabella and Wheeler all were in action.
The Eagles will compete in various races throughout the season, including the City Championship, before the start of the postseason, where MSD hopes to compete in the State Championship.
