The Marjory Stoneman Douglas boys’ and girls’ soccer teams are proceeding to the Regional Semifinal after their victories on Tuesday.
The girl’s soccer team recorded a 7-0 win over Coral Glades. These two teams previously met in the District Final, with the Eagles winning 3-0 to earn the top spot in Regionals. Alexa Jourdan and Brenna McWilliams scored two goals, while Emma McGregor, Grace Dykstra, and Breanna Gordon scored in the win to move to 13-1-2.
“We are super excited to have gotten the win and to be moving on,” Head Coach Laura Rountree said.
Next, MSD will play Coral Reef in the Regional Semifinals on Friday, February 16, at 5 p.m. The Barracudas are 14-3-2 this year and beat Western High School in their last game after losing to Miami Palmetto Senior High School in the District Final.
The boys soccer team also won a District Championship and was seeded fourth in Regionals before beating Miami Palmetto Senior High School in the Regional Final.
Coby Alhadeff made his first appearance this season and goal and shined, while Soren Jacobsen scored twice. The Eagles are set to play Doral Academy in the Regional Semifinals on Friday, February 16, at 7 p.m. The Firebirds are 13-2-2 this year, won a District Championship, and beat Coral Reef High School in their opening Regional Game.
The Eagles also had one of their players announce their commitment with Ian Selveraj committing to Gettysburg College.
“To be committed feels rewarding,” Selveraj said. “It is something you envision from the start of your high school years to play at the next level. It has certainly added a layer of focus from the time now until I arrive to become as sharp as I can be within body and mind.”
Selveraj only began playing when he was eight but played recreational soccer before transitioning to travel soccer. He has played for the Parkland Travel Club Team for nearly eight years and on the ENCL National Team and the UPSL Premier League.
Selveraj says he was offered an ideal package for college and felt like he could see himself going there and growing as a player. The Bullets are coming off a season where they went 5-7-4.
