Eight-year-old Penelope Milian of Parkland placed second in Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run Finals at Dodger Stadium, representing the Miami Marlins.
Penelope, a 2nd grader at Heron Heights Elementary, is the daughter of Janet and Jonathan Milian of PGCC, who emerged as one of the nation’s top young softball players after months of intense competition.
The Pitch, Hit & Run competition, an annual MLB event, tests young athletes in pitching accuracy, hitting distance, and base-running speed.
Competing in the 7-8 age division, Penelope progressed through several local and regional competitions, ultimately winning her division at Marlins Park in September. Her score placed her at the top of the national leaderboard, securing her one of four finalist spots in her age group.
Penelope joined more than 60,000 participants nationwide who vied for a chance to compete at the World Series. As a finalist, she attended Game 2 in Los Angeles and competed at Dodger Stadium, finishing second in her division.
MLB’s Pitch, Hit & Run Finals represent the country’s top one percent of youth players.
Her mother, Jane, told Parkland Talk, “We are very proud of her and what she has achieved…because it motivates kids to continue working hard.”
