David Pollack, a resident of Allegro Senior Living in Parkland, celebrated a milestone 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends on November 1.
They had a meal with cake, music, and camaraderie. Many of his neighbors were present at the event, making it a lively social gathering. Pollack appreciated the opportunity to connect with family and friends he had met at Allegro.
Throughout his long life, Pollack has experienced many challenges and triumphs. His grandson, Alex Aronson, shared that Pollack had a successful career as an ironworker in New York, taking great pride in his work. Pollack married Mildred, and together they had two children: Robert and Marceen, who is Alex’s mother.
Mildred died from Parkinson’s disease, and for 18 years, Pollack ran a support for individuals and families who struggle with the disease. Later, Pollack married Maria, according to Aronson.
“My grandfather was always fit and exercised. He could carry me when he was age 63,” said Aronson.
Pollack is proud of his ironworking career. “I belonged to a union, and I worked on many of the skyscrapers in New York. It was hard work and took me a year to get used to it,” he said.
When not working on building the New York skyline, Pollack was part of the auxiliary police in Rockland County for about 15 years.
Pollack said caring for one’s family and being happy is essential. “I like living in Florida, and I have many friends here,” he said.
