The next great young Baltimore Orioles prospect is just one step away from the big leagues, with former MSD graduate Coby Mayo getting another promotion.
After a sensational year in Double AA, the 2020 graduate was officially promoted to the Orioles’ Triple A affiliate, Norfolk Tides, after being named Eastern League Player of the Month and June Organizational Player of the Month.
Mayo, also recently tabbed as a Top-100 Prospect, hit .307 and had an OBPS of 1.027 this season. He also has hit 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and leads the league with 49 extra-base hits.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Draft, Mayo hit 13 home runs and scored 61 runs in high school before working his way through the farm system. He has 45 in his minor league career and 154 RBIs while also playing excellent third base.
Mayo’s debut with Norfolk will have to wait til at least Friday, with the Tides off for the All-Star Break, but he could potentially be an option to make his major league debut later this season for the red-hot Orioles, who are in second place in the AL East.
