A female student at Westglades Middle School in Parkland was rushed to the hospital Friday morning in serious condition after falling from a second-story balcony, authorities said.
The fall happened around 10 a.m. at the school at 11000 Holmberg Rd. The incident led administrators to place the school on “medical hold status,” which limits student movement on school grounds, while the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department responded to treat the child.
The child was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale in serious condition, according to Mike Moser, deputy chief of the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department.
The medical hold lasted from approximately 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., according to Broward County Public Schools.
Counselors were available at the school Friday to provide support to any students or staff needing assistance, district officials said.
Additional information about the incident, including the child’s condition and the nature of her injuries, was not immediately made public Friday.
