The winter sports season was impressive for Marjory Stoneman Douglas, with several teams making a deep run in the postseason.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas had a pair of girls win the Player of the Year Award. Gaby Caro was named the top wrestler in Broward County after going 21-0 this year and winning a State Championship. Grace Dykstra also won her second straight Player of the Year award in girls soccer after finishing with 11 goals after a 15-2-2 season. Laura Rountree won Coach of the Year, while Laina Engelbart and Layla Segelnick were named the First Team All-County. Gianna Rizzo and Taylor Le were picked for the Second Team, and Lilly Conn, Jackie DeStefano, Alexa Jourdan, Sophia Lowry, Emma McGregor, and Emily Rodriguez were all named Honorable Mentions.
For the boys’ soccer team, Anthony Carnuccio was named to the First Team after helping the Eagles win a District Championship. As a defender, he tallied a goal and three assists, with Elon Jon Saranga being recognized as an honorable mention.
On the basketball court, Brady Kuebler and Ayden McLean were honorable mentions for the boys’ basketball team, which won 11 games. In wrestling, Rocco Duygulu and David Leiva were selected to the First Team after the two wrestlers made it to the state and combined to go 75-10. James Messier was an honorable mention, with Parkland natives Peter Mocco and Michael Mocco getting selected to the First Team.
