
Seniors From The Marjory Stoneman Douglas Boys Lacrosse Team. {Patricia Victoria}
Marjory Stoneman Douglas had a tremendous week coming out of spring break, which was highlighted by wins in various sports.
The baseball team went 3-0 and improved to 19-2. The Eagles beat St. Thomas Aquinas High School following home runs from Bennett Gary, Gio Rojas, and Michael Ossenfort. Rojas also pitched a complete game and struck out eight before a 10-0 win over Fort Lauderdale High School in a combined no-hitter.
Danny Tartaglia pitched the first five innings and struck out 10 before Peyton Jay and Jonathan Rodriguez each struck out the side in their innings. MSD then won 8-0 against Monsignor Pace, with Chase Wildroudt tossing five innings and Breylynn Courtney recording the final six outs.
Cade Raley and Laurel homered, while Rojas, Brody Gargiulo, and Abraham Halaoui all had RBIs. The Eagles will close the regular season with a matchup against Neumann High School on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. before facing Doral Academy the following day at 6 p.m.
The softball team dropped their first game on Tuesday against American Heritage High School 3-0 despite a pair of hits from Anotinia Nelke. The Eagles then went on to beat Monarch High School 4-1 on Wednesday behind a complete game from Addison Zajkowski. Dani Rincoln knocked in two runs, while Lucia Perez and Camryn Ferro recorded RBIs. MSD is 7-8 this season and will play J.P. Taravella on Monday, April 7 at 5 p.m.
The flag football team improved to 10-0 following a pair of wins against West Boca Raton and Coral Springs Charter, outscoring their opponents 71-0. Sam Calavetta finished the week 36-45 with 10 touchdown passes.
Aubrey Halrtiwnager led the way with four recipe scores, while Mickayla Sugrano added three. Courtney Heymach, along with Ava Kelleher, Savannah Tenore, and Sophia Dal Molin, found the end zone twice.
The Eagles have allowed only six points all season, coming against West Boca Raton Community High School on February 26. They will close the regular season with a Senior Night matchup on Monday, April 7, at 4 p.m.
The boys volleyball team played Cooper City High School on Saturday and lost in four sets: 19-25, 21-25, 25- 17, 25- 22. The Eagles are 3-4 this year following wins against J.P. Taravella, Coral Glades, and Coral Springs Charter. MSD will play their next match against South Plantation High School on Thursday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m.
The tennis team was also in action. The boys’ team lost their second match this season, falling 5-2 against Pine Crest School despite wins from Herman Stelling, Dennis Oliviera Jr., Coby Alhadeff, and Jared Rusinoff in doubles. The Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 6-2.
The girls’ team finished the regular season 8-0 following a 4-3 win over Pine Crest School. Savita Bagirathan and Dhea Bagirathan both won in singles and doubles. Zara Risavy also won, while Stefaniia Zagori and Brynn Edwards also won in doubles.
The boys’ lacrosse team finished the regular season with a 10-5 win over West Boca Raton Community High School. Zaid Popen led the way with three goals, while Landon Beecroft and Josh Johnson each scored twice.
Noah Ozan, Jackson Gibney, and Nate Klein all added one. Beecroft recorded three assists, and Ozan and Max Fliegel each had two. The Eagles’ other win came against J.P. Taravella heading into the postseason.
The girls’ lacrosse team lost 12-11 to Jupiter High School before closing the regular season with a 16-8 win over Ramson Everglades High School. After making Regionals last season, they head into the postseason with a record of 8-6.
