The high school sports season may have ended, but Marjory Stoneman Douglas had over a dozen student-athletes participating in BCAA All-Star Games.
Harith Pradeep and Jonmarco Aponte represented the boys from the water polo team on May 10. These two players combined scored 17 goals this year and helped the Eagles to a 9-5 record. Anna Rosa and Alejandra Silva played for the girls’ team that won four games this year. Rosa led the team with 51 goals, while Silva scored five.
Mia Beteta from the flag football team played for team North and won 20-7 over South Central on May 16. She helped the Eagles win three games with wins over J.P. Taravella, Stranahan, and Coral Springs High School. Beteta also caught nine passes for 51 yards and a touchdown.
The softball team had all four of their seniors and college signees selected, with Jesyne Espinal, Olivia Alvarez, Bianca Guerra, and Kyla Davis on May 30. Espinal, who will play at Middle Tennessee University, went 10-2 with an era of 1.24. Alvarez is signed with Rollins College in Winter Park and led the team with four home runs.
Guerra also pitched well on the mound this year, going 3-2 with a 1.56 ERA. She is headed to Daytona State University, while Kyla Davis will play at Chesapeake College in Maryland after knocking in seven runs this year.
Despite the cancelled baseball game, Dillon Moquin, Cayden Freels, and Alex Lazar were selected from MSD. Moquin, who will play college baseball at Appalachian State University in North Carolina next year, hit .267 on their route to an undefeated season and State Championship. Freels saw limited time but hit a home run on Senior Day. He will play at Roanoke College in Virginia next season, while Lazar was the final selection. The slick-fielding infielder is signed with Coker University in South Carolina.
