Marjory Stoneman Douglas star Gio Rojas was officially named the Gatorade and Florida Dairy Player of the Year in Florida.
Rojas says it feels amazing and can not be more thankful to be recognized with these honors.
“They’re both very great awards and I don’t think I could explain how stoked I am to have that chance to show people who I really am and how I really play the game with all full intent,” Rojas said. ” I can’t say it enough, but I truly am grateful for that and gotta thank god for putting that opportunity in my hands.”
Rojas, a junior this year, has won two State Championships with the Eagles. He is coming off a historic season in which he went 12-0 and pitched to an ERA of .72. The hard-throwing left-hander also struck out 128 batters in 68 innings and allowed only 35 hits. He previously pitched in five games in the 2024 season and went 4-0 with a .66 ERA.
Rojas was also a force at the plate, finishing the year with a .375 batting average. He hit two home runs and eight doubles while driving in 32 runs.
“He is a great kid who has worked hard on his skills to be able to play a kids game,” Head Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald said.” He is truly deserving of these awards for his efforts on and off the field of play. I couldn’t be happier for him and his success.”
Currently committed to the University of Miami, Rojas is one of the top pitching prospects in the 2026 MLB Draft Class and is the second Eagles in the last three years to win these awards, joining Christian Rodriguez in 2023.
