Nearly two weeks after being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eight-round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Gavin Conticello has signed his first professional contract.
Initially, he was signed to play for the University of South Florida in college this upcoming season but decided to go professional and ink a deal with Arizona.
Conticello says it means a lot to him to officially be a part of the Diamondbacks organization.
“It’s something that I’ve been looking forward to ever since I got drafted, and now that I’m a professional baseball player, I get to start my journey to the big leagues, which has been my goal since I was a young kid.”
Conticello, who played at Coral Springs Charter and Marjory Stoneman Douglas, signed for a $500,o00 signing bonus (186,300 slot). He spent two years on the varsity team at CSC with Head Coach Charlie Fine before winning a State Championship with the Eagles in 2021.
Conticello hit .301 in high school and had his best season as a senior. He had a pair of home runs and drove in 23 RBI’s as he was a member of First Team All-American Third Basemen, 2021 7A-12 All-District Team, and 2021 Senior All-Star Public Team.
Up next, Conticello will likely head to Rookie Ball where Coby Mayo, who was drafted last year from MSD, is currently playing. Conticello will have to work his way through the Diamondbacks minor league system to potentially make his debut in the big leagues in the next few years.
