Following a successful spring season that featured several playoff runs and a state championship, the top student-athletes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas were selected to the BCAA All-Star Game.
The baseball team had Drew Freeman, Breylynn Courtney, and Chase Wildroudt picked. Freeman, who the University of Louisville signed, led the Eagles in batting average at .387. The starting catcher for MSD also had two home runs, seven doubles, three triples, and 31 RBIs this season.
Courtney will play college baseball at Eastern Florida State College and shined out of the bullpen for MSD. He recorded the final out at the State Championship Game and finished the game 2-0 with an ERA of 1.89 and eight saves.
Wildroudt also pitched in the State Championship Game, going 7-2 with a 2.21 ERA. He will play college baseball at the State College of Florida.
The flag football team at MSD went 13-2 this year, making a run to the Regional Semifinals before falling to the nation’s top team, Miami Palmetto Senior High School. They previously won a District Championship while Sophia Dal Molin, Daria Boykin, and Savannah Tenore all competed after Dal Molin finished tied for the team lead with nine touchdown catches. She also caught 47 passes for 591 yards.
Boykin signed on defense, leading the team with 46 flags pulled. She recently signed up to play in college with former teammate Morgan Goldman at Alabama State University. Tenore also shone as a receiver and ended the year with 26 catches for 253 yards and five touchdowns.
Glauer Nogueira was the lone player from the boys volleyball team to be picked after following a 6-6 season, which featured them competing in the postseason before losing to Olympic Heights Community High School in four sets.
