A dynasty has officially been built in Parkland with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team.
Not only did they win their second straight State Championship — for the third time in the last six years — the Eagles were also officially named High School baseball’s top team of the year.
The Eagles went 30-2 this year and became only the second team that wasn’t from California to win the High School Baseball Invitational featuring the top 16 teams in the county.
MSD also won the District, Regional, and State Championship, competing against one of the most rigid schedules in the county.
This past season, the Four University of Florida commits on the mound led the Eagles. Chris Arroyo, Jake Clemente, and Christian Rodriguez all had ERA’s under 1.20 and combined for 27 wins, while Jacob Gomberg started two games and had a win.
Offensively, potential first-round pick Roman Anthony powered the offense. He hit .520 with ten home runs and 40 RBIs. Cameron Harris, Santiago Ordonez, Arroyo, and Clemente all homered this year, along with big games from Rylan Lujo, Niko Benestad, Dillon Moquin, Devin Fitz-Gerald, and Grant McDonald.
With ten players set to graduate this year and nine heading to play baseball in college, the Eagles will still bring back a solid team for the 2023 season, and they’re hoping to become the first in Broward County to win three straight State Championships.
