As Marjory Stoneman Douglas celebrates another state title in baseball, several champions from previous years are shining at the professional level.
Jayden Dubanewicz, a three-time State Champion, recently won his first Rookie Ball in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. The right-hander picked up a win in his third start, tossing five innings and allowing only one run, and struck out seven to lower his ERA to 4.15
Dubanewicz, a 16th-round pick in the 2024 draft, threw four innings in his first two starts and allowed five combined earned runs. However, like in his high school career, he is averaging more than a strikeout per inning, with 14 this year, and has yet to allow a home run.
Devin Fitz-Gerald continues to shine in the Texas Rangers organization, hitting .325 with two home runs and 12 RBIs this year. He was a fifth-round pick and one of four players to win a State Championship in all four high school years. His older brother, Hunter Firz Gerald, has homered twice this year in 97 at-bats, driven in nine runs, and stolen one base while playing in Double-A with the Arkansas Travelers. Hunter has homered nine times in his minor league career and driven in 57 runs.
Gavin Conticello was drafted in the eighth round of the 2021 draft and is playing in Double-A with the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Through his first 33 games, Conticello has four home runs and has driven in 22 runs. He was an eighth-round pick in 2021 by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Roman Anthony is the top prospect in baseball and continues to shine in the minor leagues. He plays Triple-A with the Worcester Red Sox and has six home runs and 18 RBIs. Anthony is also hitting .322 and has stolen three bases after being selected in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft. He has hit 34 home runs and driven in 182 runs during his minor league career while also stealing 40 bases.
Coby Mayo had a brief stint with the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month and is currently back in Triple-A with the Norfolk Tides. He had a hit against the Minnesota Twins and reached via the walk, but he has hit seven home runs and driven in 24 runs in the minor leagues this year. Mayo was a fourth-round pick in 2020 and has hit 89 home runs in his professional career, along with 227 RBIs.
Jesus Luzardo is having a dominant season in his first year with the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-hander Rex Ty played for the Miami Marlins but is shining with the Phillies with a 5-0 record. He is coming off a 10-strikeout performance against the Colorado Rockies and has an ERA of 1.97 this year after being selected in the 2026 MLB Draft.
