Heading into the postseason, Marjory Stoneman Douglas has resumed, with several teams looking to maintain their momentum in the new year.
The boys basketball team picked up their seventh win of the season, beating Hollywood Hills High School. This is the third time this year that the Eagles have won by at least 20 points and are set to play Westminster Christian in their next game on Monday, January 15, at 3:30 p.m.
The girls basketball team was off the entire week and will play Cooper City High School on Tuesday, January 16, at 6 p.m. The Cowboys are 6-6 this year but have lost four of their last five games.
On Thursday, the boys soccer team fell 3-2 against American Heritage School. They are now 4-5-3 this year and will play Coral Springs High School in their next game on Thursday, January 18, at 4 p.m. The Colts are 6-5-3 but lost 6-1 last year against MSD.
Girls soccer played to a 0-0 draw against American Heritage High School. The Patriots came in as the 44th-ranked team in the country but could not get one past the Eagles. MSD then played Park Vista on Friday and won 7-4.
“I was proud of their work ethic and effort but we still have a lot of work and improvement, especially defensively, to get ready for postseason play,” Head Coach Laura Rountree said.
The Eagles will play St. Thomas Aquinas High School in their next game on Tuesday, January 16, at 6 p.m. before holding Senior Night against Coral Springs High School on Thursday, January 18, at 6 p.m.
Wrestling is competing in a tournament at Coral Springs High School. Gaby Caro, who came off a state championship last year, is undefeated again this year. She has also shined in the classroom with a 4.7 GPA and is the leader of Latinos in Action. The boys team started undefeated this weekend, winning all six matches before finishing second place behind Fort Pierce Central High School.

On Saturday, the cheerleading team began the postseason by competing in the District Championship in the Medium Non-Tumbling Division. The Eagles finished in fourth place and competed against J.P. Taravella, Boyd H. Anderson, Pompano Beach, and Blanche Ely High School.
Next, MSD, who finished third in states last year, will wait to see if they will compete in Regionals on Friday, December 19 at Dillard High School.
